Chris Ashton backed to earn England return

Saracens FC player Chris Ashton has been backed to win his place back in the England squad for the Rugby World Cup 2015 on home soil this summer by his club boss. Mark McCall has also claimed that the winger is now playing at a much higher level that he did when he last appeared for England in the international arena.

Ashton lived up to his reputation as one of the in-form wingers at the moment in the country when he scored two stunning tries for his club in a 42-14 hammering of Harlequins FC in front of a record crowd at Wembley recently and McCall believes the player’s confidence is sky high at this time and it is showing in the performances that he has been putting in.

The two tries against Harlequins FC took his tally to 12 in 22 matches in both the Aviva Premiership and European Rugby Champions Cup this season. However, according to McCall, it is not his scoring form but the improvement in his all round game that has made Chris Ashton a contender for an England spot once again after being overlooked for the Six Nations Championship campaign earlier this year.

McCall said that he thinks Ashton is a better player overall now than he was when he last pulled on the England jersey. He added that he went away and did things that he was asked to do. He mentioned that he can talk about the Chris Ashton that plays for Saracens FC and that player scored a lot of tries for the team last season and he has continued in the same fashion this season as well.

According to McCall, the player can definitely force his way into the England side and the squad will be a better one with him in it.
