Exeter Chiefs sweat over Johnson fitness

Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the Exeter Chiefs are sweating over the fitness of England flanker Tom Johnson. The England international was injured in the club’s defeat to Leinster in the Heineken Cup and now, The Chiefs will have to endure an anxious wait as they sweat over the news of the extent of the injury suffered by the England man. The 30 year old barely played for 15 minutes before being carried off from the pitch on a stretcher in the club’s 29-20 loss in Europe’s most prestigious competition for domestic clubs.

The injury looked extremely nasty from even a distance and the scream of Johnson that was caught by the camera microphone tells the entire story. Rob Baxter, the Director of Rugby for the Exeter Chiefs was speaking to BBC Radio Devon about the injury suffered by Johnson and according to Baxter, he has done something to both his ankle and his knee and all they can do is wait and see how extensive the injury is and how long he will be out of the game.

Baxter stated that the club will get a scan done on Johnson as soon as possible and the report of that scan will tell them how extensive the injury is. Johnson has been in excellent form for the high flying Chiefs over the last couple of seasons and was rewarded for his performances with an England cap during the country’s recent trip to South Africa.

The 30 year old was part of the lineup in all the three tests against the South Africans as well getting the chance to pull on the England kit against Fiji and Australia. And although England will not miss him with replacements in place, the Exeter Chiefs are bound to suffer if he is out for too long.
