Exeter Gets First Aviva Premiership Win

Exeter Chiefs have registered their first victory in the ongoing 2016-17 Aviva Rugby Premiership by defeating the Harlequins last Saturday. The opening two weeks against the Wasps and Saracens did not go well for the Exeter side. But, they have bounced back with a win and Lachie Turner feels that they should build on this win and move forward this season.

It was Turner and England international Luke Cowan-Dickie that played a vital role in Exeter’s win. Luke got a hat-trick of tries in the game. Exeter Chiefs had a very good first half and Turner also made his first score for the club during the 36-25 win over the Londoners at Sandy Park. This victory lifted the Exeter team from the bottom of the table to the 7th position.

The 29 year old Turner from Australia wants the team to build on this win and to kick on in the future games. They will be playing against fierce rival Bristol this Friday. Turner said that the win on Saturday was very important and to gain 5 points out of the game was a very good showing by all the boys. He felt that Exeter played a very good and strong first half. The teams had great pace and were onto the ball very quickly. This is why they were able to pull off four tries in the first half.

Turner admitted that the Exeter Chiefs did not play well in the second half. He said that the team gave away the ball to their opponents a little too much for his liking. The team took the gas off the pedal and this is not warranted against a strong team like Bristol. In fact, Friday will be the first time that Exeter and Bristol will be playing each other in the Aviva Premiership.
