Johnson extends Exeter Chiefs contract

England international forward Tom Johnson has extended his contract with the Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the Exeter Chiefs, putting pen to paper to a new one year deal. The 30 year old joined the club located at Sandy Park at the start of the 2007 season, and his current contract with the club was set to expire at the end of the season. But the club did not want to let go of its prized asset and although he is currently sidelined due to a knee ligament injury, officials offered him a new deal which he gladly accepted.

Speaking of his new contract, Johnson stated that this is the sixth season that he has been at the club and it is there for everyone to see that the club is going in the right direction. He went on to state that the club has big plans off the pitch and as for the players on the pitch, the times are pretty exciting as well with the team doing quite well in the Aviva Premiership. Johnson has five capos to his name for England, having made his debut for the national team during last year’s summer tour of South Africa.

Johnson also stated that his settled home life at Devon was a key factor in his deciding to sign the new contract with the Exeter Chiefs. He mentioned that a lot of it has to do with the area where he lives and added that he is very fond of the boys at the club as well.

He mentioned that both of these things are important to him, as well as being a part of the current England set up. And he also thanked the Exeter Chiefs for helping him get to that position with the England national team.
